How To Apply FN Nano Coatings
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
WE RECOMMEND 1 GALLON/400SQ FT (Sufficient for 3 layers of FN®Coating)
• WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GOGGLES AND RESPIRATOR (ESPECIALLY WHEN SPRAYING)
• COVER ALL AREAS THAT WILL NOT BE TREATED WITH FN® Coatings
• SHAKE! SHAKE! SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE!!!
NOTE: DO NOT MAKE THE SURFACE WET. APPLY THIN LAYERS THAT SHOULD ALWAYS DRY QUICKLY.
PAINTBRUSH: Good for corners, details, application on any rough surface and roofs. 3 coats are required for proper effectiveness of FN®Coatings. Let the surface dry before applying each layer.
ROLLER: Good for most surfaces that are not completely smooth such as facades, stuccos, concrete, wood, and other surfaces. 3 coats are required for proper effectiveness of FN®Coatings. Let the surface dry before applying each layer. Note: Coating consumption may vary on porous surfaces.
(NOTE: YOU CAN APPLY FN® COATING DIRECTLY ONTO AN UNCLEAN SURFACE. IF YOU CHOOSE THIS METHOD, AFTER APPLYING FN®Coatings THE RESULT WILL APPEAR YELLOW, AT FIRST. ONCE ACTIVATED WITH SUNLIGHT OR UVA LIGHTING, THE YELLOWING WILL EVENTUALLY FADE TO WHITE AS FN®Coating BEGINS TO WORK AND OXIDIZE THE SURFACE (“BURNS/EATS” THE ORGANIC MATTER). TIME TO OXIDIZE IMPURITIES OR TO TURN SURFACE WHITE WILL VARY DEPENDING ON THE SEVERITY OF THE IMPURITIES UNDERNEATH THE COATINGS.)
2. If your current surface has an oil-based paint you must first apply a primer.
3. If you are unsure of the ingredients in the current paint on your surface, you can test the surface.
• Apply the FN®Coating to a small area – no larger than 1 sq ft.
• Activate the FN®Coating – Make sure to expose the surface test area to sunlight or UVA light. • Wait 10 minutes.
• If you detect a smell of “Fresh Paint” – your current surface paint is incompatible with FN®Coatings. STOP! You must first apply a primer to your surface. Why do you smell “Fresh Paint”? FN®Coating is working – simply put it is oxidizing “burning/eating” the organic materials (the oils) in the paint.
• If you are unable to determine or ever uncertain of your surface paint – always use a primer.
4. Use of a primer is highly recommended for people with asthma and/or those suffering from extreme allergies or mold. FN® Nano has tested the most common paints and selected the best to be used as primers for FN®Coatings – Our best rated recommended primers include::
• SILACOTE, Inorganic mineral paint. (http://www.silacote.com/cote/) Silacote provides high-quality silicate paints which are an ideal base for FN®Coatings. This type of undercoat is perfect for people with asthma and suffering from allergies. Mold? Use this paint/primer! sales@silacote.com
• BEHR, Premium Plus Ceiling Paint Interior Flat No. 558
• SPEED-WALL CEILING PAINT, No: WHITE 1250-1220V
• See link for a complete list of tested & rated compatible paints/primer
5. Let the paint or primer dry/cure completely before you apply FN®Coating
FN1® and FN2®Coating are used primarily for exterior surface protection of concrete, ceramic, stone walls and other ordinary surfaces, including wood in interior and exterior applications. General Outdoor Use: For optimum outdoor protection of facades and air purification apply FN1®Coating as your 1st layer and top with 2 layers of FN2®Coating (Note: Alternatively, you can simply use 3 layers of FN1®Coating. This works well for the protection of exterior wood cladding and natural wood fencing.)
Anti-Graffiti: Use 2 layers FN2®Coating as base and top with one layer of FN3®Coating.
INTERIORS:
FN2®Coating & FN3®Coating are generally used indoors. For indoor application, we recommend coating the ceiling and if desired the upper portion of the walls – but only coat above the 7’ line. (You do not want the coating to be rubbed off or mechanically removed by touching it.)
General Indoor Use: For optimum indoor air purification use 3 layers of FN2®Coating.
High Indoor Pollutants: For mitigating smoke and for those with asthma or extreme allergies we recommend applying 3 layers of FN3®Coating.
MOLD:
FN3®Coating is used to combat mold.
First clean mold. Allow the surface to dry completely. Apply a primer.
Allow the primer to dry. Follow with 3 layers of FN3®Coating. You must have sunlight or UVA light to activate the FN®Coating and combat the mold.
Fold the dirty side, inside – clean side, outside). Do not delay the cleaning to avoid dusting area when removing the foils.
2. CLEAN TOOLS WITH WATER
3. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE LARGE, UVA TRANSPARENT WINDOWS, INSTALL UV-A LAMPS
UVA Lamps (365nm ~ 1W/10 SqFt). Mount the lamps directing the light about 1-3 ft from the ceiling. The ceiling is the most efficient area.
EXAMPLES OF UVA LAMPS:
MASTER Actinic BL TL-D 18W/10 1SL
Actinic BL 8W/10 FAM
EIKO 8W F8T5/BL
THE PHOTOCATALYTIC COATING IS ACTIVE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SURFACE IS DRY AND ILLUMINATED.
Skin protection: The product is non-irritating; however, as fine powder, it can absorb moisture and natural oils from the surface of the skin during prolonged exposure. Prolonged exposure can be avoided by wearing suitable protective gloves and clothing.
Eye protection: The use of approved tightly fitting safety goggles is recommended if aerosol or dust concentrations are likely to exceed the occupational exposure limit 10 mg/m3.

1. CHOOSE AN APPLICATION TOOL
SPRAY GUN: The most preferred method for applying FN®Coatings. Ideal for smooth surfaces or “popcorn” ceilings. A low-pressure spray tool (e.g. Wagner W550 or slightly stronger W650) will provide an even coating and less material consumption on smooth, porous and fast drying surfaces, such as drywall. 3 coats are required for proper effectiveness of FN®Coatings. Let the surface dry before applying each layer. In most environments coating should dry in 10-15 minutes (humid conditions may require more drying time).NOTE: DO NOT MAKE THE SURFACE WET. APPLY THIN LAYERS THAT SHOULD ALWAYS DRY QUICKLY.

2. PREPERATION
OUTDOOR APPLICATIONS: IF YOU HAVE A VERY DIRTY FAÇADE YOU SHOULD FIRST WASH THE SURFACE TO REMOVE IMPURITIES. INDOORS – IF VERY DIRTY OR GREASY, THE SURFACE SHOULD BE CLEANED FIRST BEFORE APPLYING FN®Coatings.(NOTE: YOU CAN APPLY FN® COATING DIRECTLY ONTO AN UNCLEAN SURFACE.
3. DETERMINE IF YOUR SURFACE IS READY FOR FN® COATINGS
1. Composition of paints differ. Modern paints contain binders and additives which are not always compatible with the application of FN®Coatings (e.g. oil base, etc.)2.
